Physical TherapyPhysical therapists or physiotherapists treat muscular, skeletal and neural systems. They evaluate patients, and figure out the best ways to improve mobility and relieve pain. Physical therapists have excellent job prospects, particularly in acute hospital, rehabilitation, and orthopedic settings. Physical therapists must have a master’s degree from an accredited program and passing scores on national and state examinations. There are about 750,000 physiotherapy jobs in the U.S., the majority working in hospitals and outpatient clinics, as well as rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, schools, home health, hospice facilities, research centers, athletic facilities, industrial clinics and in academic centers as educators. A substantial number also practice privately. The APTA American Physical Therapy Association offers tools, resources and professional development documentation to physical therapists.
